The 2018 Cavell Leitch New Zealand International Jazz & Blues Festival, in association with the Embassy of the United States of America, is thrilled to welcome multi-award winning Jazz vocalist Kurt Elling and his Quintet to Christchurch for one night only.
Grammy winner, Kurt Elling is among the world’s foremost jazz vocalists. He has won the DownBeat Critics’ Poll 14 consecutive times and been named “Male Singer of the Year” by the Jazz Journalists Association on eight occasions. Grammy nominated more than a dozen times, Elling has also been honoured with several international jazz awards, including the prestigious Edison Jazz Oeuvreprijs (Lifetime Achievement Award).
Kurt Elling’s rich baritone voice spans four octaves and he commands the stage with his astonishing technical mastery, emotional depth and a repertoire that includes original compositions and modern interpretations of standards, all of which are springboards for inspired improvisation, scatting, spoken word and poetry.
